This Newark Castle is built right on the shore of the River Clyde in Port Glasgow. The keep was built in the 15th century and expanded in the next two centuries. The Maxwells of Calderwood built the keep, and several ranges were added onto the keep. The great hall has been partially restored and has several entrances that wind around and can get the visitor lost.
The basement had the kitchen, storage, a serving center, and a small stairwell that leads to the hall. The exit door can be seen in the right most photo.
