Dun Beag is a broch which is a Scots term for
a circular, tower-like structure with double walls. Large slabs linked
the walls forming galleries and passageways between them.
Dun is Gaelic for fort and Beag means small.
Brochs date from about 100BC. Dun Beag is said to have been occupied as late as the 18th c.
It is estimated that the broch once stood 30 feet high and had walls 10-15 feet thick.
